Dawn Patrol
The Home Acres Annual Dawn Patrol fly-in breakfast is traditionally held on Sunday morning of Memorial Day weekend. It began in 1963 and ran for 57 consecutive years until it had to be canceled in 2020. Through the years, volunteers from HALO have been instrumental in all aspects of the event from planning, providing the financial outlay for food, advertising, and setting up ahead of time; to cooking and serving the food, directing airplanes and cars for parking, collecting the donations and paying the expenses. Proceeds from the Dawn Patrol have gone to funding airport maintenance. The Dawn Patrol is a wonderful event that brings together people from all across Michigan in their airplanes and all across the local area in their cars. Serving breakfast to 750 people is the norm. That’s a lot of eggs, ham, and pancakes! Local businesses have been very supportive in donations and advertising, and it has been a great relationship-building opportunity for the Lake City community.
